Streamers / Bucktails

A gentleman introduced this little streamer to me back in the late seventies. I used it with great success in the small streams here in northern NH for several years. I kind of lost track of them for a long time until I started tying my own version a couple of years ago. This streamer still catchs fish as well as it ever did, and it does equally well in streams or trout ponds. I'm glad I rediscovered this pattern, it is a nice addition to anyones streamer box. Offered in sizes 8, 10.

Coyote , Orange
Streamers / Bucktails

The Coyote is a pattern I developed for fishing rivers where stoneflies are present. This fly is heavely weighted to get down quickly, even in fast water. The coyote fur tail and collar of this fly add movement, the ice dub and cone provide the flash. Fish this fly like you would a streamer or fish it like you would a big stone fly nymph, I have used both methods with great success in the Androscoggin River here in NH. I tie these in size 10 or 8 , be sure to specify size when ordering.

Andro Stone
Dry Flies

Here's a dryfly that at first appearence may look like a traditional dry. If you take a closer look though you will see that its not. First of all this is a big fly because its tied to match the size of the big stoneflies that live on the Androscogin river in NH and Maine. Second, it not only has a tail of deer hair it also has an underwing of deer hair that will aid in floatation. And third it has a large head made of icedub. I have taken some nice rainbow trout with this fly on the "Andro"and always have some with me anywhere there is a chance big stonflies will be present. These are offered in sizes 6 and 8.

$2.50
, , , Ausable Bomber
Dry Flies

The Ausable Bomber is one of my "Go To" flies when fishing the rough and tumble streams of northern New England. This fly is designed to float high and is great for skimming across the suface. I often fish this fly well greased with floatant to keep it high and dry for an extended period. It can also be an effective fly on trout ponds when the more delicate dries are not pulling their weight. I have also had great success fishing for Small mouth Bass with this pattern.

The pattern in the picture is the original color and my favorite but I also offer it in orange, yellow and brown, ( The Brown Bomber! )

Offered in size #12

Deer Hair Caddis
Dry Flies

The Deer Hair Caddis is one of my favorite dryÿflies, its simple to tie, floats well and imitates numerous dark speices of caddis. In Northern NH waters, the caddisfly is seen more consistently than the mayfly, there always seems to be at least a few of them around. At times there's a lot of them around. Sizes 10, 12, 14.

$2.25
DeerHair Caddis (Yellow)
Dry Flies

This yellow variation of the Deer Hair caddis is always worth a try, especially where rainbows and Brook Trout hang out. This fly floats very well and is easy to see. Sizes 10, 12, 14.

$2.25
Double Humpy
Dry Flies

If one Humpy is good then two should be even better, sometimes that is very true! I have been tying and fishing these big flies for several years and they have become one of my favorites. I've taken some outstanding rainbow trout on the Androscogin with these flies and the largest brookie that i've ever taken on the Magalaway River in western Maine was fooled by a Double Humpy. These flies float like a cork and the trout seem to hit them violently, which is okay by me! These are offered in sizes 6 and 8.

$2.50
Humpy
Dry Flies

The main ingredient in a humpy is deerhair, the tail, the hump and the wings are all made from deerhair making these flies float like corks. This productive fly works well in fast turbulant water and is worth a try on flat water when other patterns aren't producing. The fly shown is tied with a chartruese underbody and is also available with yellow, Sizes 10, 12, 14.

$2.25
LaPointes Stonefly
Dry Flies

In mid to late June the fishing on the Androscogin in NH is at its finest. One of the largest and easily recognized aqautic insects on this river is the stonefly. They seem to prefer fast moving water and the Andro has plenty of that. Here is something different to imitate or "suggest" an adult stone. Sometimes offering the trout something they have'nt seen before can really get thier attention. I offer these in sizes 6 and 8.

$2.50

Dry Flies

This pattern represents the lighter colored mayflies and together with the Dark Cahill can cover a lot of the mayfly spieces. Sizes#12,#14

Mr. Rapidan
Dry Flies

This dry fly hails from the mid atlantic states but works well anywhere trout and salmon reside. This can also be one heck of a bass fly, in other words its a very verstile dry fly. This fly can represent a number of mayflies with its combination of colors and materials. A good choice in fast turbulant water when chasing trout or when cast along the bank of your favorite smallmouth river. offered in sizes 10,12,14.

$2.25
, Never Sink Caddis
Dry Flies

The Never Sink Caddis is a Southern Appalachian Pattern popular in the Smokey Mountains. I think it is equally well suited to our Appalachian region of Northern New England. The White Mountains of New Hampshire are home to countless small, fast moving streams. The foam under wing on this fly will keep afloat in these clear, tumbling streams. These can also be a great choice during the Alder Fly hatch on the Androsgoggin River.

$2.25
Red Quill
Dry Flies

This fly has a very sleek, segmented body closely imitating that of a mayfly. Good choice when a delicate presentation is needed. Use a light leader, a little of your favorite floatant and throw a gentle cast allowing the fly to land softly on the water, you may be pleasantly rewarded! Sizes#12,#14

$2.25
Royal Wulff
Dry Flies

The royal wulff doesn't look like anything natural, but it has accounted for a lot of fish over the years. It works great in fast turbulant water especially if you apply a little floatant. One ofÿthe best attributes of this fly is that it is highly visible even for those of us whose eyes don't work quite as well as they once did! Out standing pattern for brooktrout and landlock salmon. Sizes 10, 12, 14.

Cased Caddis Nymph (Gold)
Nymphs

The caddis fly nymph protects itself by attaching objects to itself such as sand or small wood debris like spruce needles. This makes them easily recognizable in the stream. If you notice a very small ball of sand moving along the bottom where there is no current it's not your imagination, it's a caddis fly nymph. The Cased Caddis Fly Nymph imitates this stage of the caddis flies life cycle. Sizes 8, 10, 12

Gray Squirrel Nymph
Nymphs

This nymph has become my favorite nymph on the Adroscoggin River. I have seen some nice Rainbows fooled by this fly on the Shelburne section of this big river. This fly also saved the day for a friend fishing a remote trout pond in northern Maine. You won't find this nymph in the big fly shops, this was created right here at my little shop and tested on the local streams. offered in sizes 6, 8, 10, 12  Weighted.

$2.25
Maple Syrup
Nymphs

The Maple Syrup is one of the simplest nymph patterns out there but a very effective nymph. I tie this pattern unweighted so if I want to get it down I use a sink tip or full sinking line, or add a little split shot to the leader. I also fish it on a dry line letting it float around just under the surface. This pattern presents a big juicy easy meal to Trout or Bass.

Deer Hair Hopper (Olive)
Terrestrials

Size #8. Very realistic pattern, floats low in the water. Can be very effective along stream banks with a lot of grass and low vegitation. Keep it as natural a presentation as possible.

Flying Ant
Terrestrials

Keep a few of these in your terrestrial box incase you happen to be out fishing and see a bunch of flying ants out there. Size 12.

H + F Hopper, Orange

I have spent days on "The River" as the Androscoggin is locally refered to catching smallmouth, chain pickeral and yellow perch all on the same Dans Dragon. I can also custom tie these on stainless steel hooks if someone is interested in using them for salt water spieces, please specify in box provided.  Please specify size when ordering. Foam Bass Bug (Black+Blue)
Bass Flies
Sizes #4,#6.This is a high floating bug that will move a lot of water when stripped in with quick pulls on the fly line. the bigger size offers quite a mouthful to whatever spieces your after, so be prepared for anything! These are a little harder to cast because they catch a lot of air, but once you get aÿgood length ofÿline out it gets easier. Sometimes it's a good idea to let the bass bug sit still for a few moments after it hits the water before starting the retrieve. Often, it's that first quick pull that gets the strike. The best retrieve is a quick pull, hold, quick pull, hold method.

Sheep Head (Black)
Bass Flies

The Sheep Head series of bass streamers has become some of my favorite bass getters. They sink quickly, have good movement and enough flash to attract the attention of big bass and other warm water game fish. You can strip this streamer in fast keeping it on a fairly level path, or it can be fished slower in an up and down motion like a jig. Try different methods, In shallow areas you can use a floating line but in deeper water I recomend a sinking tip or full sinking line. Sizes#4,#6.

Small stream Selection
Dan's Own Selections

Crystal clear water, beautiful scenery, and solitude, what more could a flyfisherman ask for. Northern New Hampshire is blessed with a multitude of wonderful small streams that hold good numbers of brookies and rainbows. You could easily spend a lifetime exploring all of these little jems of the northwoods. I have been at it most of my life and have only gotten to know a few of them really well. Chances are that you live in an area that has smaller streams that go mostly untouched by a lot of flyfishers, give them a try and you might be pleasantly surprized. Its a good idea to travel light when working your way along these rugged little waterways and usually all you need is a few well chosen patterns to cover your needs for a happy day spent fishing. Here is a small selection of flies that have worked well for me. This is a combination of 20 flies.

STREAMERS-Mickey Finn/ 6+8,Olive Wooly Bugger/ two #8,  Bruces Old Standby,(BOS)/two#10,West Branch/ #10 Red+White and Black one each.
